The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I may never be thirsty or have to keep coming here to draw water.” John 4
If a child cries we flee to its aid. If a loved one suffers we take on the suffering as if it were our own. If a patient is ill a nurse heals their wounds. If a companion needs guidance we listen as if they were the only one in the room. If a stranger is lost, compassion wells in us. We feel, we respond in love. These ways are unable to be self attained but can only derive from the source of all goodness of God’s love. Love is one’s deepest need, although not tangible, is everlasting. To allow God’s love to flow through us we accept that all we are is from God’s love. How sweet the ‘living water’ of Jesus can become our sustenance.
As deep or faint as faith may be, how often do we doubt like the Samaritan woman? She came to the well at a time when others would have stayed away for the heat, possibly to avoid others opinions but it was there at the well she met Jesus. She sinned as we all do, she doubted as we all do, but still she asked God to give her ‘living water’. Like Moses in the desert. Like Joseph towards Mary. Like St. Paul on the road to Damascus. We are challenged but are never alone. God walks with us and invites us especially at times when we are weak. Humility and weakness are our great strength.
In our small community and throughout the world a Coronavirus is raging, emotions and behaviours vary among people, God is inviting us to drink of the well where will never thirst again. Like the Samaritan woman it can be difficult to believe that God can give us all we need to keep sailing through the rapid rivers of life, still Jesus invites each of us. Although our journey may be strewn with thorns, God’s love is the bud that will bloom in the soul. God’s love is the rose at the end of the journey. We are but sojourners in this life, to love and support one another. In prayer He awaits. Today you might ask, Gracious Lord help my unbelief. Lord fill me with your wisdom, peace and calm.
Be well,
Claudia
Reading your thoughts gives me peace.
