Our God is in the heavens; he does all that he pleases.  Their idols are silver and gold, the work of human hands.  They have mouths, but do not speak; eyes, but do not see.  They have ears, but do not hear; noses, but do not smell.  They have hands, but do not feel; feet, but do not walk; and they do not make a sound in their throat..” Psalm 115

There once were two men, needing to calm their mind after a stressful morning strolled through a park and came upon a bench.  The strangers sat and decided to linger a bit away from the noise.  One reached for his phone stopped himself instead zipped his pocket and let it remain there.  The other quickly reached for his phone with eyes down began to scroll and search.  The other looked and seen a beautiful red Cardinal perched on an emerald branch and thought how lovely the deep crimson of this creature.  He saw children pointing to the bird admiring and chasing it from below.  He wondered how this tiny creature came to be and the message, if any, that existed in this crimson bird.  His memory recalled the great love he shared with his wife, family and friends and the times he had fallen short of loving them as they deserved.  The other man scrolled and reviewed images and reads.  A gentle wind lifted the man’s hat his attention drawn to the gentle sounds of nature in the breeze, a faint chirp, insects buzzing and children laughing.  He smiled at the thought of his wife’s laughter that was so contagious and children laughing and playing.  He thought of the times he might have lingered and listened more to those in his presence.  He eyes welled but he was thankful of his blessings.  The other man found the information he wanted and caught up on the life of another and continued to scroll.  He rolled his eyes and clicked another image and read. The first man took his apple from his lunch and his mind thought of his younger days when he frolicked, picked and ate apples from his family’s apple orchard.  He could smell the aroma of the apple pies of his youth.  He pondered on the beauty of creation and life’s journey of beginnings and endings. His heart filled with wisdom of the suffering and love that grew from each.  He glanced down at this hands and thought of thousands of times he used his hands and helped another and the times he could have done more.  He would resolve to do more.  After some time had passed calmly he got up reached out his hand, said to the other man,”Peace be with you”.  The other man taken aback by the stranger looked down at his phone and an ad popped up which read, ‘Peace is Faith’.

Peace,
