Speak, for your servant is listening. 1 Samuel 3.3B-10, 19

Ralph Waldo Emerson in his poem The Snow Storm takes a glimpse through a snow storm and the art the snow leaves behind bringing with it, a morning joy. In part of his poem he says, “And when his hours are numbered, and the world is all His own, retiring, as he were not. Leaves, when the sun appears, astonishing Art. To mimic in slow structures stone by stone. Built in an age, the mad wind’s night-work. The Frolic architecture of the snow.”.

This beautiful poem makes me reflect on the times in which I have yet to see God’s beauty behind the scenes to a time now where I have come closer to listen to Him. To incline your ear and come to me Isaiah 55:3I . On this winter morning as the snow slowly dances through the air before it falls and disappears into the solid ground there’s a sense of calling that I hear in the shadows. Glancing out the window the snow is just beginning to gently soften its way to the ground and with it comes a stillness that happens within a heart. The trees left barren after the leaves have fallen to the ground like the word of God in our heart. How many times has God of all creation summoned and in the muteness of our spirit have we been unable to hear his Grace gently surround us and wanting to disperse itself within the depths of the heart of man. Like sojourners we keep on yearning for what has been in our presence the entire time. We can be willing but are we weak in the brokenness within us that is the foghorn and speaks louder than the love of God.

This January my husband and I together have begun a journey through the bible in a year with Fr. Mike Schmitz using the Great Adventure Bible series by Jeff Cavins through ascension press. This week we ventured through Job’s suffering and his faithfulness in his loss and grief. We see his friends in their weakness try to console but blame him for his suffering. We walk with Leah with her feelings of being unloved. What lengths we go through at times to satisfy others and live in the shadows when our purpose should be to perfect our ways in which God wants for us. In any journey we set out to believe in its goodness for ourselves, those we love and those in our presence. We believe as we listen to his word we will receive his invitation to enter into the door of his ways, his love, his heart. Surreal moments present themselves when we hear his voice in our hearts, his life in our hands, his hope in our minds and we allow ourselves to be transformed. Jesus opens the door to each of us and wants that we believe but also belong to Him. The more we walk in the light of His love we can share in the peace and comfort and know we are living in the perfect moments of life. It’s like running with confidence through a forest of feelings that transform into a garden of splendour and peace.

May you be filled with gratitude in moments God offers you. May his arms outstretched be your comfort. Amen.

Peace,

Claudia
