Gen 1:2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

Have you ever pondered on how waters, lakes and oceans beckons our soul? We are drawn to the water’s beauty and tranquility. Water flows regardless of what hinders  its path. The stream twists and turns and adapts to its surroundings. It can teach us so much about humility. Water sits low in the landscape, yet it offers such peace and strength. It does not cease to flow even when the path is new. It does not cease to flow whether it is depleted or full of content. Ever so gently it continues to flow offering its beauty and love to be adorned. Its serenity calls us in silence. It has no need to rumble as thunder to lead people to its presence. For those whom have sat still in its presence have been quenched with a renewed spirit.  Water, for me is a natural wonder and a source of beauty.  Ezekeil 47 1-9..the sea of stagnant waters, the waters will become fresh. Wherever the river goes, every living creature that swarms will live..Their fruit will be for food, and their leaves for healing.

Streams and rivers embrace every hill, stone or protrusion in its unknown adventure. How do we embrace the unknown? The rivers elegantly flow as natural as the warm glow of sun that gently soothes the skin. The water is within our soul and being. If as humans we were meant to live and love within the natural existence of the world, how then can we make our soul flow in tune to it, in all times? I believe we were created for that purpose. We were created, not to control or change everything yet to embrace and flow fluidly with the presence that surrounds us. To learn and unlearn. To let go and renew. How much more beautiful would it make a life for one to be more fluid and flow rather than be restricted. Water ebbs and flows as the wind and force naturally allow. The cycle of rain trickles into it, replenishing its evaporation.

I read, that scripture mentions water 722 times. In baptism, blessing, cleansing, purity and other meanings, it should give us pause.  My heart reflects on the creation of water. God calls us to be humble. God calls us to empty our hearts of preconceived thoughts and fill it anew with his love. He calls us to purity. He calls us to be holy and humble. Humility, allows us to let go and let God do his work in our lives. It allows us to see beyond our fear filled attempts to fill our own needs and trust our creator will provide all we need. It opens our heart to seek and trust in creation. Like water, the more we humble ourselves, the more beautiful we become. The more perfect we become. It pushes us from selfishness and plunges us into the depths of the amazing world around us, so that we can thrive. We begin to live in harmony rather than competition. In creation there is plenty for each of us in the universe. There is a time for all things. The more fluid we become we can learn to flow and grow and change for goodness and we are able to discover the true meaning in life. Humility leads us to authentic peace. In humility we can rely on God and his creation and less on false hope. Revelations 22:17 The Spirit and the bride say, “Come”, Let anyone who hears this say, “Come”. Let anyone who is thirsty come. Ley anyone who desires drink freely from the water of life.

My mother was a beautiful model of humility.  In pain, she loved.  In another’s sorrow, she listened.  In brokenness of others, she found goodness.  Her voice was mild but her laughter was immense.  May God and all the angels give her harmony in heaven.  Be a model of humility.  It is something we can all learn.  In the end, it’s a gift of comfort and peace in faith.

Let us pray. Lord, giver of life. Mary, full of grace. Let us always be mindful that we are growing and learning to love more. To give more. To forgive and be forgiven. Let us not be righteous but humble us to receive your will and presence around us. Lord, hear our prayer. Amen.

Peace,

Claudia
