He makes me lie down in green pastures; he leads me beside still waters. Psalm 23

Psalm 23 has been a passage that has been a source of comfort for many whom have lost, suffered or been in need of consolation throughout generations. Many times has this passage whispered to my heart, each time it has revealed something new. Scripture has a way of coming alive in many ways according to where we are in our life and the way we need. He invites us to listen more closely and believe. It is in the listening and growing in the ability to tune out the noise and distractions that this passage can speak to us.

Still waters. The gentle waves of the ocean, the glistening of lakes, the rustling of rivers, the falling of rain tend to infuse a sense of calm as we draw near to rest. Generations ago in a dry desert I imagine this beauty of still waters was rare. I wonder, in the barren desert, was Jesus inviting our ancestors to come away from the lands of plenty to a place where there was enough for all live. A place to survive in a healthier and more beautiful way. This place of rest for the mind, body and soul that Jesus offers is in this world and the next, through Him and in Him. Away from the rushing sounds of life that can mute the goodness Jesus invites us to a place of peace. A world where peace and love reign.

Still waters. In a such a time of tribulation and doubt for people around the world this can be difficult. We may hope to seek it in prayer and scripture. Maybe it may be found in the waking of the dawn and it’s creatures. Maybe they have hidden themselves in this unfolding, changing world and the goodness of people. Or it may be in the unsettled soul that yearns for forgiveness. Possibly, it may lie in the tears of a parent as they caress their child. Or in the hope of heaven for a lost beloved. Does it dare be in the loneliness of a soul who pleads for Jesus to save and heal. Or in a mother who prays without ceasing with all hope in Jesus to guide and protect the children he has created. It may be found in a servant of God whom places healing of another at the forefront. It may rest in the faithful servant or priest that prays for the conversion of all souls. Seek love and there it will be.

Jesus wants to shepherd us. Gracious ever-loving Lord, shepherd your people and guide them to your still waters where the soul may rest in you. Mother Mary pray for us.

Peace,

Claudia
